Overview

I created training jerseys for the Newport High School Boys Soccer program. It was designed to celebrate a championship season and give the team a piece of identity they could wear on and off the field. The jersey hit because it felt specific to this group. The meaning behind it made it more than merch. It made it a memory.

Jersey details

Design details:

Vatos Muertos graffiti lettering designed for strong on-body readability.
Placement and scale tuned to sit clean on the Nike silhouette.
Sponsor placement approved under high school uniform rules.
Designed to feel professional, like a real club training top.

Production

Production approach:

To keep the jersey affordable and actually possible for the players, I produced it on blank Nike performance tees and printed them by hand in small batches. That decision kept costs down, avoided high minimums, and let the project exist at all.

Base garment:

Nike Swoosh Sleeve rLegend Tee (NKDX8730), a Dri-FIT performance tee built from recycled polyester.

Why this method worked:

Lower minimums than fully custom uniforms

More control over timeline and quality

Pricing stayed within reach for players and local supporters

Small-batch production meant we could move fast and fulfill locally

Outcome

Result:

The jersey released through the team’s online store and sold out.

It gave the community a clean way to support the program and show up at matches.

It helped build momentum around the new era of Newport Fútbol.
